Kenneth M. Karlin, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has been certified in excimer laser surgery since 1996, the first year that the FDA approved laser refractive surgery in the U.S.  He is past president of the Northern Virginia Academy of Ophthalmology, and current President of the Virginia Society of Ophthalmology.  He has been cited seven times in the Washingtonian Best Doctors List, seven times in the Best Doctors List, and three times in the Check Book magazine's Outstanding Physician Specialist list.  He has served the Commonwealth of Virginia as a member of the Board for Opticians, first appointed by Governor Gilmore in 1994 for four years, and then appointed by Governor Allen in 1998 for his second four year term.   

He received his medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, and his residency at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans.  He further did a fellowship in Glaucoma at the Washington University School of Medicine/Barnes Hospital from 1984-1985, and immediately after that, began practicing ophthalmology in Mclean and Reston in 1985.

He received the Distinguished Service Award in 2007 from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Presential Award 2008 from the Virginia Society of Ophthalmology.
